(such as the Congo, Tanzania, Uganda, and Zambia), refines it again in Kenya,
and then exports it to group member companies.
After refining, the gold has purity of 23K (95.8% pure gold, 4.2% impurities).
Among the 3TG metals (tin, tantalum, tungsten, and gold),
gold is the metal that is most likely to be involved in illegal mining, smuggling,
and funding of local armed groups.
For this reason, it is the metal for which responsible procurement
from the Congo and neighboring countries is the most difficult.
We export gold that is free from any ties to conflict,
through thorough inspection conducted in cooperation
with government agencies and industry associations.
